It's June 1st, 2009!

I've posted some pictures of my flowers and Sydney so be sure to check them out....

This weekend Rory and I went to visit the Dragon Kiln Pottery Farm and got some nice pots for our patio in China. We got some big ones for by the front door and some smaller pinkish-red ones for the back patio which will look really nice dotted throughout the garden when we get back to Texas. I think the movers are going to be a little shocked when they see the amount of stuff we've accumulated in the past few weeks!

Hammie went to his new home yesterday - I was very sad. I'm not too sure how long he'll last there - the kids were rather crazy so I'm sure he's probably escaped by now!

Rory left for China this morning for a week so I'll be packing bits and pieces away, keeping busy and getting organized while he's away.
This morning at my Chinese lesson I reviewed a lot of work and also learned some new sentences and words that I'll probably need to use when I get a maid. I spent the afternoon making some bracelets and earrings for my tutor as a thank-you gift. I hope they fit, and I hope she likes them!

This evening I made Chicken Enchilada Casserole -yummmmmmy! It was really delicious. I made a few changes to the recipe simply because I wanted to use up some ingredients I had before we move. On Sunday evening we'd grilled some boneless chicken (with the skin on) so I had some of that leftover which I chopped up. I also skipped the chili beans and spread some re-fried beans over the tortilla strips. Everything else was per the recipe. It was really good! I think the grilled chicken probably made big difference to the flavor. You could probably make it low fat by using fat free sour cream and reduce the salt by using sodium free soup if you REEEEALLY had to! A definite keeper!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CALLAN!
For only being here a year we sure have collected some junk! I've got a bunch of boxes lined up against the kitchen wall, all ready to have stuff thrown in. Most are already full! I know, I've got an actual moving company coming on Monday to do this for me, but I can't stand the thought of everything just being thrown into boxes, not packed properly. It's so much easier on the other side when all the baking pans are in one box, all the towels are in another, the bedding in another, etc.
I got my capri's from the tailors today - they look awesome - haven't tried them on yet though. The fact that I''ve done nothing but devour chocolate since I gave them to the tailor for copying is scaring me a little! I was sooo relieved he didn't want me to try them on before I left his store! Phew!

Having traveled so much on long-distance flights, as well as having a husband who travels regularly I can imagine what those families and friends of Air France flight 447 went through while waiting for word on the flight. We learned this morning that one of the little boys, Alexander Bjoroy, from Sydney's grade, that left at the end of last year was on the flight. Although I didn't know his family at all my heart breaks for their loss. It's a sad lesson to us all just how fragile and unpredictable life is......

The boxes are multiplying - they're like rabbits!!! I'm slowing working my way through all the bedding, getting it washed and put away, towels as well - it's amazing hwo many towels this household uses! Maxine has a new one for her hair and for her body every day - that's 14 per week - just on Maxine. Geez, no wonder I feel like the washer is my best friend! It is!

I've been "taobao-ing" today. Taobao.com is the Chinese equivalent to Ebay. You have to keep your Google translator open as well since the entire site in only in Chinese. Makes for some interesting interpretations. I looked up Chinese ceramic stool - I got a porcelain bedpan! Eeeek! Not quite what I had in mind for a side-table!

We're almost out. We're at tthat stage where it looks worse than it did when you started packing - looks like chaos! And I worked soooo hard to get it to look this way!?I'm doing the last few loads of laundry, then washing all the bedding and towels before throwing them into a box. Thank heavens it's not pouring rain today!
My desk has this sort of minimalist look going for it - monitor, keyboard, sticky notes, pen, phone and cuppa - I wish I could keep it that way - usually you can't see the desk top for papers!
My scrapbooking friend, Susan, has agreed to take all my leftover baking supplies and more "expensive" cooking items, like all my vinegars, blocks of unopened butter, sauces. etc. I can't deny that she might find the odd can of baked beans in the stash! Her husband does all the cooking so I'm sure he'll be wondering what the heck is going on when he looks in the pantry next time.

We move into a hotel, The Marriott, on Orchard Road, this afternoon, where we stay until we leave on the 15th. The dogs also go to boarding today but we can check them out on the web-cam while we're away.

Maxine and Sydney are making the most of theur last days with their friends - we see Maxine occassionally, when she runs out of money, needs a change of clothes, or feels that it's about time she check in with us again! Sydney is off to hang-out with her friends this afternoon. Their last day of school is on Thursday, although it seems we might have a bunch of school-friends on the same flight as us to Japan...we fly via Tokya to Dallas. One of Sydney's friends is on the flight as well as one of Maxine's, and one of my beading friends!  I think we'll be taking over the whole of business class!!

So, sadly, this will be my last posting until the end of July when we get to China and i get my computer up and running. I'm on Facebook so you'll be able to check in with us on their occassionally - I might be on there more often with not being able to do my blog.

Stay safe and have a wonderful summer, and for those friends and family in the southern hemisphere - stay warm!!!
