Siem Reap
Our tour guide, Kerry. Her Khmer name was over 15 letters long so everyone just referred to her as Kerry!
Our "official" photographer! Maxine actually took almost all the photo's during the trip!
The sunset on Victory beach was beautiful with the islands in the distance and the sailing boats drifting by....
We took a tuk-tuk ride around town and the driver stopped at a Buddhist Temple where we were able to have a wander around and take some pictures of the statues and tombs.
Sydney's ride on the tuk-tuk was quite hair-raising!
Looking down at locals fishing on Ochheuteal Beach, south of our hotel.
There was plenty of shade on the beach, under thatched lapas, with tables, chairs and loungers all waiting for you! The sand on the beach was wonderful - beautiful fine white sand that made a crunching sound when you walked on it! The kids, and Rory, got it some good play time in the surf.
The colors of the sunset over the water were stunning. The fact that we were on a floating restaurant in the middle of Cambodia made it even more special.
Sihanoukville
Angkor Thom is basically a walled city, built at the end of the 12th century. There are many temples within Ankor Thom, including The Bayon, Baphuon and Phimeanakas.
Maxine and Sydney looking like the American Flag, and enjoying the foot massage machines! Looks like they're already getting into the relaxation mode!
Tonle Sap, the huge lake in central Cambodia, which is the wet season almost quadruples it's size, stretching from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. We had supper on a floating restaurant, fed the crocodiles, and enjoyed the sunset.
Tonle Sap Floating Village - houses, fishing boats, schools, grocery stores, and even floating pig-pens - it truly is a floating village!
On our ride down to Phnom Penh we passed through many small villages. We saw a wedding party with guests beautifully dressed in bright silk gowns, bringing gifts of food; banana stalls with their fruit piled 10 feet high, and of course the "family vehicle" - the motorbike!
Enjoying the shade of the butterfly garden restaurant.
Ta Prohm, the location for the Tomb Raider movie, is an amazing sight!
Rory in the echo chamber.
At Artisans d'Angkor you can see wood crvers, stone carers, painters, and silk weavers at work. The artists working on the silk paintings are all deaf and some mute, too.
Banteay Srey is an exquisite temple built from pink sandstone. Almost every inch is covered in intricate carvings!
Angkor Wat, probably the most well-known of all the Angkor Temples. The five towers resemble the closed buds of the lotus flower.
Even the ceilings were intricately carved!
Some ladies enjoying their yoga during the sunrise at Angkor Wat.
Prince d'Angkor Hotel
Siem Reap
Tuk-tuk!!
We passed this small ensemble of musicians, playing traditional Khmer music, outside one of the temples. This little boy, who couldn't have been any older than three, pulled at our heartstrings!
Street view from Huxley's Pub in Phnom Penh.
The monks at the Royal palace were quite taken with Maxine, snapping some shots of her with their cellphones! There must be pockets somewhere inside those robes.
Phnom Penh
The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.
View from our hotel window.
Dentist anyone?
Syd and Max having fun shopping at the market.
Yikes - giant jellyfish on Victory Beach!
Sunset from our hotel beach...
Our hotel.
Fun restaurant on Victory beach! The were real cars protruding from the walls, an huge RV for the bar, and then this huge airplane you could hire for private parties!
The boat yard was a rainbow of color - fishing boats in beautiful reds, blues, greens and turquoise.
Hmmm, where to go next ?
